Volunteer Requirement for Parents
Since June of 2002, the Bishops of the United States, in adopting the Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People, pledged to do everything they could to ensure that all entrusted to our care would be kept safe. They have reaffirmed this commitment as recently as June 2012. In light of the Bishops’ mandate, ALL Catholic schools are required to make sure that all of our volunteers provide a "safe environment" in which all children are protected.
Therefore, in order to serve or volunteer, in any capacity, at St. Clare School you must complete the following requirements. We have also included details on where to obtain them:
Safe Environment Training (VIRTUS)
ALL volunteers must complete a Safe Environment Training Course online. The web site may be found at www.virtusonline.org
The following training courses are required for adults who work with youth. The VIRTUS® online training course Protecting God’s Children (PGC) is mandatory and must be renewed every three (3) years by both employees and volunteers.
Once you have completed the course, you need to save and either email a pdf copy of the Certificate of Completion to firstname.lastname@example.org or print it and bring it to the School Office.
Volunteers must complete the Safe Environment Training Course every three years. If you need additional information or clarification about any of these requirements, please contact the School Office or the Director of the Office for the Protection of Children and Vulnerable Adults of the Diocese of San Jose at (408) 983-0113.
All volunteers must be fingerprinted, even if you have been fingerprinted for another non-diocesan organization. This requirement is needed only once for the duration of your time at St. Clare School. Fingerprinting is performed at either of the locations shown below and there is a processing fee, which you must pay. You will need to take a valid form of picture identification and three completed (fill out highlighted section, only) copies of the Live Scan form which can be found on our school website under Forms/Documents.

Tuberculosis (TB) Testing
The Diocese of San Jose and California Public Resources Code 5163 requires that volunteers be tested for Tuberculosis (TB). ALL volunteers at St. Clare School must have a new TB Test every four years. TB Tests require two office visits. The first visit is to receive the test and the second visit is to have the test results read. The skin test must be read between 48 and 72 hours after the test is given. It is the volunteers' responsibility to provide the school with a copy of the results of the test. Volunteers must be tested for Tuberculosis (TB) every four years.
TB Tests may be obtained the following ways:
- Health Care Provider - order a test from your Health Care provider (Kaiser, Blue Cross, etc.)
- Santa Clara County Public Health Immunization Clinic, 976 Lenzen Ave #1500 in San Jose. Call them or visit their web site for details including hours of operation and costs.
